Three Kingdoms is more time-intensive and the new diplomatic-system is not so cool like many people say -> The AI is unnecessary agressive like in other TW-Games and they form a lot of alliances only to fu♥♥ you up.

The current 36k is due to the new DLC release, it'll go down again soon. Wh had already overtaken 3k for average player count before dlc dropped.
WebTROM 2.0 used to have region based unit system but 3.0 came back to tech unlocking which is a little less ideal but still gives much better faction diversity because your unique units are much stronger than common units meaning factions actually have different roaster. WebWith Three kingdoms you have RPG and story elements and you start to become quite invested in your characters and those in your court by keeping an eye on their happiness. I really feel each character has quite a fleshed out personality and managing it can be challenging as your empire grows which in turn could cause uprisings and rebellions.
